Knowing your rights at the polls
Local elections matter!
In the last Madison municipal election in 2020, our current leaders were elected by only 22% of eligible voters.
I Vote Madison thinks more Madison citizens should be shaping our city. The Mayor and City Council make decisions, big and small, that affect not only the future of Madison as a whole but our daily lives.

School board members are
appointed by the City Council.

Zoning laws and how they affect housing developments and businesses are approved by the City Council.

Roads, sidewalks, and street lighting are approved by City Council.

The Fire Chief and the Police Chief are appointed by the City Council.

The city budget and how our tax dollars are spent are approved by the City Council.

New recreational facilities and the upkeep of current fields and playgrounds are approved by City County.

On Tuesday, August 26, citizens will elect the mayor and their respective City Council member. There are seven City Council districts in Madison. District lines have recently been redrawn, so please double check your district. Look up your district now.
