Why Civics Education?

Civic engagement is crucial if we are to maintain a healthy representative democracy. Schools can equip our students with the knowledge and skills they need to become civically engaged citizens:

-An understanding of how our government works

-Historical knowledge

-Communication and social skills

-Information literacy

-Critical thinking

Madison City Schools Survey

Madison City Schools is surveying parents and community members to gather feedback as they creates a new, 5-year strategic plan. The surveys cover academics but also school environment, funding, and district growth.

Civics and the social sciences are not among the items on the survey. If you think our school system should place importance on civic learning, tell them by using the "other" selection on the survey.
